Web TV

Google is spearheading an effort to create its own internet TV following by creating its own content.

Check out this video below.

Some will fail, some may be successful. Are we ready for web TV? What if it is available on TV sets, not just computers (as with Apple TV, you can access youtube. TVs with Google do the same)?

Internet television can allow marketers to tailor ads to their viewers based on online data collected on sites visited and other habits. How do you think this will develop and where do you see this in 15 years?

  1. This is the immediate future -- web TV -- for both entertainment and associated advertising.

There was a wonderful article in this weekend's LA times, http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-0218-ct-fox-digital-20120217,0,3884946.story , about 20th Century Fox joining the RUSH to produce made-for-web TV shows.

In the web-show featured in the article, 20th Century already has a sponsor, the KIA car company, and they are targeting young males.

Web-TV appears to appeal to young males.

This might be the immediate future, but do the external TV modules really have a place now that many TV manufacturers already are equipping their TVs with internet apps and functionality? I mean, I recently purchase a SONY TV that has all the apps and tuner functions, so why I do need to buy something like a Google TV or Apple TV? I guess it is really aimed for people who want to retrofit their older generation TVs?

  3. TVs will not disappear. I think what's important about web TV is that they create new content for a new distribution channel. It is another way of getting your entertainment.
