Going back from work, I took a picture just to show you that in Paris like in Boston you can find QR codes, and Flashcode everywhere.
The following one was not readable with standard scanner application:
The logo of the AT&T application is based on a Flashcode (and not a QR code):
Below the QR code I created for this blog:
Here a QR code for the website:
A QR code I found in Cambridge:
The landing page (result of the scan):
Someone needs to create a best practices for using QR Codes. Until then you'll have poor landing pages, ineffective locations, and a variance of inadequate sizes.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Banks that there is a need for best practices for using QR codes. For my most recent marketing campaign, I have created multiple QR codes to track the effectiveness of each marketing activity like flyers, print advertisements. Is there any better way of adopting QR codes and at the same time tracking the effectiveness of each marketing activity?
ReplyDeletePLEASE standardize them do I don't have to figure out which is which and do I have the right scanner!
ReplyDeleteWhat Jasmin says in the comment above is interesting. She's using QR codes just like direct mail marketers used to use printed alphanumeric codes on their pieces; only they had to accumulate the data from things like reply cards.
I was going to answer by saying that there might be another way, but when I thought about it I realized that I would still have to create a code for each separate piece/channel/ad, whatever.
Anyone else have any bright ideas?
Jasmin,
ReplyDeleteFrom what I understand, you create a separate set of QR Codes for each marketing program correct? What specifically are you trying to do when you say you would like to track the effectiveness of each activity? Perhaps we'll find a way to create unique qr codes in a sequence for each campaign, then bulk scan and register each collected code (if returned by hand), or a way to produce web analytics that identifies visitors that arrive on a site via the QR code...
Banks,
ReplyDeleteYes, I create a separate set of QR codes for each marketing program (activity) of a campaign. For my recent marketing campaign, I used the different QR codes that link to the same webpage. These QR codes are used in print advertisement, flyers, brochures and electronic mailer blasted by various external partners. Then I realise that I am not able to track the effectiveness of each activity even though I have high volume of registrations.
In order to track my marketing activity more effectively, I duplicated the webpage for each QR code. Question: So is there a more effective way of tracking? How could I use the QR code to track the effectiveness of each activity for any market campaign?
Any insights?
Despite the shortcomings, what returns have the use of QR codes given you? I also agree there needs to be best practices in QR code use. For reference, the company Ion Interactive has a wonderful short ebook (around 10 ages) which has good pointers on QR Codes and integration with Landing Pages. It's called "From scan to conversion:
DeleteA guide to QR code landing pages."
It's quick read and I'd love to hear other's thoughts on this. I think it's a good guideline. But then again, unlike you, I haven't had the chance to actually implement the use of QR Codes in any campaigns yet.
I'm thinking that there is an opportunity to generate these and capture the metrics for a company willing to invest in this. needs to be thought out.
ReplyDeleteHello
ReplyDeleteI am currently working on that to create value for the company I work for.
The idea is to provide an account, and from that account, you can add as many codes you want and consolidate the metrics corresponding to them.
For landing pages, www.tekora.com is doing a good job :-)
This is an interesting post on the use of QR codes - http://www.marketingprofs.com/short-articles/2534/an-argument-against-the-usefulness-of-qr-codes?adref=nl032812&utm_source=mpt&utm_medium=quicktake&utm_campaign=basic&utm_term=mobile&utm_content=article. Supposedly only 5% of US mobile users scan QR codes - is this channel worth it?
