Noticed on my twitter stream this morning that entrepreneur Guy Kawasaki is giving up Google+ for Pinterest. Choice is interesting.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was watching TV last night, I saw (for the first time, and I admit I do not watch a lot of TV) the network promoting their Pinterest page - encouraging viewers to check it out. It was HGTV, so the medium and audience is appropriate for Pinterest. I imagine the majority of viewers on HGTV are female between 25-40. Atleast, that fits my profile!
ReplyDeleteI have a friend who runs an online jewelry store, Kirakira in New York. She has PR representatives on monthly retainers for marketing. However, she says that she gets more sales through referrals on Pinterest than her PR representatives.
ReplyDeleteHer PR representatives try to get her jewelry designs into international fashion magazines such as Vogue, Glamour, Marie Claire that are full of high fashion clothing, celebrities etc. Her advertising is so small that it is hardly visible in a 250 page magazine.
On the other hand, Pinterest advertises her products to a community of people who enjoy hobbies such as crafts, art, clothing, jewelry etc so it is targeted to the right market.
