Interactive Marketing
Last week, we mentioned how mobile phones have made Internet even more relevant in our every day lives. Right now, we can already program and activate our TV and laundry machine (to name a couple) with the ease of a click; here's an example of potential new ways to connect in a future not so far away, where we'll still be able to check our e-mails first thing in the morning, while showering, cooking or simply opening the fridge. I think each interaction in this video presents us with the perfect opportunity to target customers in a more precise manner, and can make us reflect on why internet marketing strategies are such an important piece of the overall marketing mix. Think about your fridge not only reminding you that you're about to run out of milk, but showing you the latest offers from your favorite brand along with related information relevant to you.

Take a look at the number of views of this video. It was one of the great viral videos of 2011. Why do you think it went viral?
ReplyDeleteI think this video went viral because it goes beyond the high expectations on new technology launches that were in the market at the beginning of 2011, when a lot of state-of-the-art communication devices were coming to light, from the newly peaked tablet market, which saw competitors trying to allure customers away from the second generation iPad, to the newest technology in smartphones.
DeleteIn fact, today Corning released a second part of it (http://youtu.be/jZkHpNnXLB0), along with a longer commented version (http://youtu.be/X-GXO_urMow) where they explain what would be possible to do today, of course, with Corning products...
DeleteConceptually this is great thinking. But energy technology has to catch up with this concept. Once transparent solar cells are feasible and/or graphene technologies make advancement this concept will become more of a reality.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely, we have a long way to go; this is just an example of potential Internet channels to trigger our imagination on how to target different customers.

ReplyDeleteI watched the video and really enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteI think this ad is successful for the same reason Apple is successful: they are both selling a cool future, and I want to be a part of that -- I want to be cool.
